Tieara Myers, Artist
Hi, I’m Tieara Myers. I am an abstract artist living in Portland, OR, who works primarily with acrylic.
I work primarily in acrylic melding empty spaces with impactful symbols and lines. Typically, I focus on one primary color to evoke emotions and memories in the viewer. In addition, there is a core color that spans across all aspects of my art: the rich and vivid color of irredescent gold.
Over the last year, I’ve been exploring the impact of using familiar symbols in a new dynamic way. The circle is a dominant symbol in my artwork. This symbol of a circle represents life's journey, the movement, the imperfections, the bumps in the road. The circle is continuous, has a sense of a beginning and an ending at the same time. It is both completion and a stepping stone. The circle it’s self has been a way for our society to get from one place to another - that is physically and spiritually. Intentionally, my circles of gold aren’t fully connected to represent the beauty of imperfection and continuity. This theme has only expanded and grown in depth and viscerality over time.
I am inspired by the abstract, the magical, the surreal, the spiritual. I have a passion for artists like Hilda of Klint, Frida Kahlo, Agnes Pelton, Remedios Varo, Barbara Kruger, Yayoi Kusama, and Bisa Butler to name a few.
