Gardenia | Poetry

I love you like a gardenia.

How it harvests itself and blooms

when you least expect it.

It is so simple, a gardenia.

One color.

But have you seen the strength of its petals?

Thick and ready to withstand the strongest of resistance.

Yet tender, knowing when to let a layer fall so another can be revealed.

I love you like a gardenia.

The fragrance stops me,

distracting me from wherever I thought I was going.

Just here.

Soaking up the sensual sweetness,

allowing it to fill my body with its richness.

All thoughts float away.

For a moment, what worries?

I love you like a gardenia.

I go out of my way to walk your path every day.

Reaching out to touch your tender petals.

Grateful for each moment, thanking you as I depart.

I love you like a gardenia.

Even ( in winter ) when you are tucked away

shy and recharging

I remember you in all your beauty and what’s to come.
